Last Saturday, Dr. Marie-Michèle Paquette, Ph.D., presented findings from the PRESAJ Study: Precursors of youth’s sexual and romantic relationships.
👥 Sample:
1,469 adolescents who had been in a relationship at least once during the four years of the study.
Participants answered questionnaires about their experiences of trauma, their romantic relationships, and their perceived partner responsiveness.
🔍 Results:
Adolescents who had experienced cumulative trauma in childhood reported less perceived responsiveness from their romantic partner.
No significant differences were observed based on gender or sexual orientation.
💡 In short:
These results highlight that the effects of trauma on interpersonal dynamics can manifest themselves in early romantic relationships, reminding us of the importance of relationships marked by kindness, security, and recognition during adolescence.
Congratulations to the PRESAJ team for this wonderful contribution to research on adolescent relationships and development!
