Dr. Sophie Bergeron, our laboratory director, gave an interview to PsyPost on July 18 to discuss the results of a recent study. The study discussed in the article aimed to examine whether greater intimacy was associated with higher levels of positive sexual cues and, consequently, greater sexual well-being in couples. This study was conducted in collaboration with Dr. Marie-Pier Vaillancourt-Morel (Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières), Dr. Katherine Péloquin (Université de Montréal) and Dr. Natalie O. Rosen (Dalhousie University).

Results showed that feeling closer and more connected to one’s partner led individuals to have more positive thoughts and feelings during sex, which improved their overall sexual well-being. Dr. Bergeron emphasizes the importance of intimacy in fostering long-term sexual well-being by promoting positive sexual signals and deeper emotional connections between partners.
